kerry rawlinson<\/strong> is the recipient of awards in the genres of poetry<\/strong>, flash fiction<\/strong>, art<\/strong> and photo art<\/strong>. An autodidact & bloody-minded optimist, she was nibbled into her current shape by a Zambian gestation & Canadian maturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a long career in Architectural Technology & Design whilst raising her family, she now pursues Literature & Art\u2019s Muses around British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan Valley<\/a>, her long-suffering husband providing comedy breaks. kerry<\/strong> misses Zambian storms, avocados & chicolawa<\/em>*, but still wanders barefoot, spending creative time and energy with her beloved grandkids, traveling & visiting snug pubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ARTIST STATEMENT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My sustenance and salvation is a relentless curiosity. A poet’s purpose is to ask the questions and bear witness, so my creative leaning is expressionistic, exposing the battle lines of people vs place, belonging vs dislocation, studying the systems humanity creates, individually and collectively, and their repercussions. I’m inspired by everything<\/em>, exploring the edges & intersects of nature\/ construct, culture\/ chaos, order\/ anarchy, failure\/ success; what emerges from people, collectively, and what happens when we\u2019ve disappeared. I’m enthralled with the gore, music, rhythms & beauty of the world, all of which I try to offer in my work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my photography practice I dabble with various digital tools to develop and move each piece wherever it leads me. I never Photoshop, and often enhance pieces with acrylics or inks. My artwork and photography is signed kRi,<\/em> which was my father’s nickname for me. He, too, was a photographer, and I spent many magical hours in his darkroom while growing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
